1. PURPOSE

The purpose of these guidelines is to support the administration of the High Impact Paper Award (the award).

2. SCOPE
  1. These guidelines apply to the High Impact Paper based on the impact of papers published in a Nature-index journal or the top 2% of journals published by Clarivate.  
  2. These guidelines apply to all KFUPM faculty and researchers.

3. DEFINITIONS AND ACRONYMS 
1. Definitions

Principal Author

Principal author, also known as first/lead author, is the one who made most of contributions in conducting the research investigation, and writing and editing the manuscript

4. OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the award are to:

  1. recognize KFUPM faculty members and researchers who have generated a high-impact paper published in a top-quality journal;
  2. encourage KFUPM faculty members and researchers to target their papers for publication in top-quality journals in their respective fields.

5. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

All KFUPM faculty members and researchers are eligible for the award where:

  1. their paper was published while the applicant was affiliated with KFUPM, and the affiliation appears on the publication;
  2. their paper has at least 50% authors from KFUPM;
  3. the first author or corresponding author is from KFUPM;
  4. their paper was published in a Nature-index journal (https://www.natureindex.com) or in the top 2% of journals (JIF Percentile is above 98%) published by Clarivate (https://mjl.clarivate.com/).
  5. their paper has major contribution to UN SDG (https://blog.scopus.com/posts/sustainable-development-goals-sdgs-on-scopus).
  6. their paper has in international co-author;

6. APPLICATIONS

Applications are not required

7. SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS
  1. Awards will be made based on the impact of papers published in a Nature-index journal or the top 2% of journals published by Clarivate.
  2. DR will monitor publication impact, determine award recipients and make awards throughout the academic year.
  3. DR will inform award recipients.

8. AWARD BENEFITS
  • The recipient will receive a certificate.
  • The principal author for nature index journal will receive a certificate and  gift, while other KFUPM authors will receive only a certificate.

    9. IMPLEMENTATION, COMPLIANCE, AND REPORTING
    1. DR is responsible for monitoring the implementation of these guidelines using the following performance indicators:
      • the number of awards allocated, annually;
      • the number of issues reported in relation to the awards scheme.
    2. Dean of Research is responsible for ensuring compliance with these guidelines.
    3. Non-compliance with these guidelines shall be immediately reported to VPRI.
