On the 23rd of November 2023, the KFUPM Interdisciplinary Research Center for Hydrogen Technologies and Carbon Management (IRC-HTCM) set its purpose to contribute in creating an economical and environmental impact through basic and applied research. Located at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, the research center aims to explore multiple promising fields in applied sciences.

 

As part of the Center’s interests, hydrogen is one of the leading options for clean and sustainable energy, due to its minimal environmental side effects. The economic value of hydrogen is globally recognized, with high demand from energy agencies and industrial sectors. Specifically, the IRC-HTCM’s Hydrogen program focuses on:

•           Production of clean hydrogen

•           Hydrogen storage and transportation

•           Hydrogen utilization (especially clean combustion)

Additionally, the IRC-HTCM aims to mitigate CO₂ through capture and utilization of this greenhouse gas. Thus, the Carbon Management program has focuses on:

•           CO₂ capture, be it point source or direct air capture (DAC)

•           Carbon conversion & utilization

•           Carbon storage & sequestration

•           Net Zero Carbon advocacy, policies and regulations
