Institution: King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals
Location: Dhahran, Saudi Arabia
Duration: [1-2 years, renewable based on performance]
Position Overview:
We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in numerical modeling and simulation of hydrogen transport in multiphase flow systems, grounded in continuum fluid mechanics and advanced computational methods. This position is part of a multidisciplinary research initiative aimed at advancing technologies for the hydrogen economy, including hydrogen storage, transport, and integration in energy systems.
.Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement numerical models to simulate hydrogen transport in single-phase and multiphase flow environments.
- Conduct research using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to model and simulate hydrogen production and CO₂ capture processes.
- Integrate data science techniques, such as machine learning and predictive analytics, to enhance model accuracy and system optimization.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop scalable and cost-effective solutions for clean energy and carbon mitigation.
- Prepare high-impact publications and presentations for conferences and journals.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- PhD in Applied Mathematics, Computational Fluid Mechanics, Chemical Engineering, or related field awarded after 2022.
- Strong background in fluid mechanics, hydrogen transport modeling, and multiphase flows.
- Proficiency in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, COMSOL).
- Experience with numerical methods for PDEs, especially finite element, finite volume, or spectral methods.
- Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C++, or Fortran.
- Familiarity with transport modeling, porous media flow, or reactive flows is a plus.
- Strong publication record and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior researchers or graduate students is a plus.
Preferred Experience:
- Proven experience in modeling multiphase fluid flows, especially in the context of gas-liquid or gas-solid interactions.
- Experience with hydrogen production technologies (e.g., electrolysis, reforming) or CO₂ capture methods (e.g., absorption, adsorption, membrane separation).
- Familiarity with data-driven approaches for optimization and decision-making in energy systems.
Minimum Requirements In addition to the required qualifications, the following criteria are essential for consideration for the position:
- PhD awarded in 2022 or later.
- No grades of D or F (or equivalent) throughout the academic career.
- An average of 5 publications per year in Q1/Q2 journals
- The PhD-granting university must be globally recognized, preferably ranked in the top 200 by QS University Rankings, either overall or by subject.
