Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) are complementary analytical techniques used to characterize the thermal behavior and stability of materials. DSC measures heat flow associated with physical and chemical transitions as a sample is heated, cooled, or held at a constant temperature. It enables the determination of melting points, crystallization temperatures, glass transition temperatures, and reaction enthalpies. TGA measures changes in sample mass as a function of temperature or time under controlled atmospheric conditions, providing information about thermal decomposition, moisture content, volatile substances, oxidation, and residual material. Together, DSC and TGA provide comprehensive thermal characterization and are widely used in polymers, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, composites, nanomaterials, and advanced materials research.
