Geoenergy Leadership

Geoenergy Leadership
Grand Challenges: KFUPM will develop methods and applications that enable KSA to achieve the following by 2030:
1- Increase the recovery factors from its subsurface reservoirs (hydrocarbons, geothermal fluids) by 30%.
2- Be the leader in achieving the global Sustainability Targets of hydrocarbon production, H2 storage, CO2-sequestration, and wastewater recycling in petroleum reservoirs.
Geoenergy Leadership: Innovation Goal 1

Consolidate geophysical methods (O&G, geothermal, CO2/H2, groundwater etc.) in the characterization and monitoring phase by 2040.

Geoenergy Leadership: Innovation Goal 2

Develop and produce oilfield chemicals in a sustainable manner locally (field-trial proven) with the goal of increasing the production potential by 20% and lowering the overall carbon footprint by 50%.

Geoenergy Leadership: Innovation Goal 3

Develop H2 and CO2 storage capabilities for safely and economically sequestering the gasses underground and handling the indirect global warming potential (GWP) of gaseous H2.
