Dr. M. Shahid Anwar holds a Ph.D. in Information & Communication Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, China, and an M.Sc. from Aston University, United Kingdom. Before joining IRC-FDE, he served as an Assistant Professor at Gachon University, South Korea, and has over four years of academic and four years of industry experience. His research interests include Extended Reality (XR), Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality, UX and QoE, and immersive technology applications in healthcare, education, and smart cities. Dr. Shahid Anwar has authored more than 130 publications in reputed venues, including IEEE Transactions, 13 book chapters, one edited book, and holds three international patents.

At IRC-FDE, his goal is to develop intelligent and explainable AI frameworks for fraud detection in financial transactions, in addition to conducting user experience (UX) evaluations of VR content.
