14 Dec 2025 @ 10:30 AM

The IRC-CBM hosted Prof. Ahmed Al-Ostaz, Professor and Brevard Family Chair of Civil Engineering at The University of Mississippi and Director of the Center for Graphene Research and Innovation (CGRI), for a technical seminar titled:
"Barriers & Opportunities for Graphene and Graphene-Like Materials in Smart and Innovative Infrastructure."

In his talk, Prof. Al-Ostaz explored how graphene-based materials are influencing the development of durable, high-performance, and low-carbon infrastructure. He highlighted key opportunities and challenges in areas such as material lifecycle cost, long-term durability, and environmental impact, emphasizing the need for cross-disciplinary collaboration in developing next-generation construction technologies.

The seminar welcomed a diverse audience of faculty, researchers, postdocs, and students, contributing to meaningful discussions on the future of smart materials in civil engineering.

IRC-CBM extends its appreciation to Prof. Al-Ostaz for sharing his expertise and to all participants for their engagement in this important knowledge exchange.
