06 Apr 2025 @ 08:00 AM

The IRC-CBM research center at KFUPM is pleased to welcome Dr. Qaisar Abbas as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. Dr. Abbas earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, specializing in Geotechnical Engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, followed by postdoctoral research at the same institution. His doctoral work focused on design methodologies for characterizing the stiffness of wall and support systems in deep excavations, and on establishing a real-time smart monitoring system for structural supports.

In addition to this, Dr. Abbas contributed to projects involving temperature-aided internal drainage for geosynthetics-reinforced retaining walls, behavior analysis of inclined micropiles, and performance evaluation of geosynthetics-encased stone columns under cyclic loading. His research combines advanced laboratory testing techniques, such as triaxial tests, large direct shear tests, and cone penetration tests, with model-scale and centrifuge experiments, as well as numerical simulations using ABAQUS, PLAXIS, and GeoStudio.

Dr. Abbas also integrates machine learning and Python-based data analysis to enhance computational interpretation of experimental data. His key research interests include ground excavation, soil-structure interaction, pile foundations, geotechnical material characterization, and reinforcement using geosynthetics.

He has actively engaged with the global research community through international conferences and publications in SCI-indexed journals, reinforcing his commitment to advancing geotechnical research and developing safe, innovative, and sustainable construction solutions.

We extend a warm welcome to Dr. Qaisar Abbas and look forward to his contributions to the ongoing research at IRC-CBM, KFUPM.
