Research Areas
Advanced Coatings
The Interdisciplinary Research Center for Advanced Materials (IRC-AM) is actively engaged in research and development of advanced coatings and intuitive surface engineering solutions through interdisciplinary and collaborative research, with a focus on developing new coatings and surface engineering solutions for various applications such as automobiles, aerospace, cutting tools, injection molds, biomedical, marine, energy, and oil & gas industries, among others.
IRC-AM develops protective coatings to address corrosion, wear, impact and fatigue, reduce electromagnetic or ultraviolet radiation, retard fire or flame, resist fouling and microbial growing, as well as to enhance self-cleaning, anti-dust and antibacterial surfaces, biocompatibility, and bioactive properties.
IRC-AM is carrying out fundamental and applied research Research activities focused on
- Physical Vapor deposition (PVD) and Chemical Vapor depsotion (CVD) coatings
- Functional Metallic/Ceramic/composite coatings
- Organic coatings and sol-gel coating
- Biomedical and bioactive coatings
- Surface modifications
- Anodization
- Thermal and chemical treatment of surfaces and coatings
- Hydrophobic and hydrophilic coatings
