Activities

Research Focus Areas

  • Heavier/ crude oil feeds to H2 production. (including distributed production in station).
  • In-situ H2 production (in reservoirs)
  • Hydrocarbon pyrolysis (to produce H2 and carbon)
  • Next-generation reactor design and integration
  • Manufacturing of Pd alloy dense membranes for low carbon hydrogen generation
  • Improve CO2 capture and utilization pathways associated with H2 production
  • Improve H2 international transport, including options such as ammonia
  • H2 storage as large-scale energy storage vector
  • Improve hydrogen storage materials and systems for mobility (improve compression requirements at H2 filling stations, i.e., reduce cost of filling)
  • Explore system-level integration opportunities of H2 in hybrid energy systems
  • Improve H2 utilization (e.g., turbine and boiler burners)
  • Address cross-cutting themes/objectives (e.g., Techno-economics & LCA studies, Safety and engineering standards of H2 systems, CCS …)
  • Survey and comparison studies related to different types of electrolyzers with a multi-parameter matrix: inlet H2 pressure, efficiency; next-generation electrolyzers
