Overview

Vision

To be a globally well-recognized center for interdisciplinary and transformative research in petroleum conversion and sustainability of petroleum resources

Mission
  • Develop futuristic technologies for petroleum conversion that diversify value-chain of crude oil.
  • Build infrastructure to facilitate scale-up of process technologies from ‘concept validation’ (TRL4) to ‘pilot trials’ (TRL6).
  • Apply chemical sciences and engineering to solve industrial challenges using KFUPM’s infrastructure and human resources.
  • Enable new business opportunities through commercialization of chemical technologies.
  • Support local and regional downstream industry research, innovation and training.
Objectives
  • Aim at research excellence and bottom-up innovation in the field of petroleum refining and petrochemicals.
  • Establish a state-of-the-art facility to develop generic creator models to better understand the chemistry of catalytic reactions involving crude oil.
  • Conduct research projects using dedicated pilot to serve local petrochemicals industry and bridge the gap between bench- and industrial scale units.
  • Complement research facilities at CRAC to cover: co-cracking of low-carbon streams; converting waste plastics to useful products; upgrading liquid hydrocarbons to chemicals and producing renewable and alternative fuels.
