In February 2024, KFUPM was awarded seven patents, including U.S. Patent 11903224, titled "Passivation of Perovskite Solar Cell Using Graphene Quantum Dots," developed by Dr. Firoz Khan, Research Scientist I at IRC-SES. This innovation was recognized as "Technology of the Month" by IIT.

The patented method enhances solar cell performance by 17% and improves stability by 9%, marking a major advancement in sustainable energy. Aligned with Saudi Arabia’s National Priorities and KFUPM’s Grand Challenges, this breakthrough paves the way for greater efficiency, durability, and sustainability in solar energy technologies.
