Seminar on "Improving organic photovoltaic and organic light emitting diode performance through interlayer modification"

Presenter: Dr. Martyn A McLachlan

Organized by: IRC-REPS
17 Dec 2014 @ 01:00 PM

IRC-REPS organized a seminar on the 17th of December, 2014, featuring Dr. Martyn A McLachlan, Department of materials & Centre for Plastic Electronics at Imperial College, London. In this presentation Dr. Martyn will present recent results detailing improvements in organic photovoltaic (OPV) and organic light emitting diode (OLED) performance achieved through improvements in device interlayers. In the case of OPV we highlight significant performance enhancements achieved by incorporating a low-temperature, solution processed oxide electron transport layer. By utilizing state-of-the-art conjugated polymers (PBTTT, PTB7) devices with power conversion efficiencies exceeding 7% are demonstrated. In this example Dr. Martyn will discuss the role of the oxide and the composition of the active layer in device characteristics. In the second part of the talk he will highlight a novel methodology for tuning the emission wavelength of OLED devices achieved by the incorporation of a transparent polymer interlayer. The role of interlayer thickness on emission wavelength and efficiency will be presented and the function of microcavity effects in tuning emission discussed.
