IRC for Sustainable Energy Systems (IRC-SES), at the Research Institute, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), is a Saudi national research center in renewable energy. The aim of the Center is to further the scientific and technological development in the major areas of renewable energy with an emphasis on solar energy and energy storage. The University is located in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
The Center has vacancies for Full Time Highly qualified Researchers, Engineers and students with good experience in the following AREAS:
- Solar Energy Conversion & Utilization: Optimal efficiency, devices and commercialization of research.
- Solar Power Generation & Systems: Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and concentrated photovoltaics (CPV).
- Photovoltaics, Modules Design, and Reliability: PV cell development, Effects of dust accumulation, Surface coatings, thin films, atmospheric and climatic effects, PV module testing and performance assessment.
- Solar energy applications: Solar energy applications for cooling, desalination, heating, building integration.
- Energy storage: thermal energy storage, phase change materials, and electrical power storage.
- Sustainability: carbon footprint, energy efficiency & systems, life cycle assessment, sustainable development, systems analysis, and technology assessment.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering/Science, Energy Engineering, Architecture Engineering, Physics/Chemistry, Chemical Engineering & Electrical Engineering (or any related).
The Center also has a division in Energy Efficiency which aims to disseminate knowledge of energy efficiency, and to exert concentrated efforts in developing, transferring, and popularizing technologies, and to promote impactful practices in the field of energy efficiency.
The Center is also seeking experts in energy efficiency in the following areas:
Energy Management: Policies, regulations, standards, codes, and legislation
Building efficiency measures & benchmarking, Economic performance measures, energy efficient materials & insulation
Procurement and energy bill analysis: Energy audits and instrumentation
Energy Analysts: Analyze energy bills and utility rates to identify opportunity for savings, Calculate potential energy savings, Quantify energy consumption, Determine patterns of building use to show annual and monthly trends, Analyze effectiveness of energy conservation measures, Provide support to the Energy Team, Assess and recommend new and existing technologies
Electric measurements: Voltages, current, power, energy, power factor, Temperature measuring instruments, Combustion efficiency measurement, Air flow and air leak measurement, Data logging, Thermograph, Heat transfer, Conduction heat loads, Air sealing of building
Heating ventilating and air conditioning systems (HVAC): System basics, Heat transfer energy consumption estimates, ASHRAE ventilation standard, Demand control ventilation, HVAC control parameters
Performance rating (cop, EER, kw/ton)

KFUPM campus has a range of facilities including medical & dental clinic, teaching and research support facilities such as an extensive library acquisitions and library databases, computing facilities, smart classrooms, and research and teaching laboratories. The campus is located at Dhahran, within a very short distance from the cities of Dammam and Al-Khobar.
