Electric fields generated by electrodes can be controlled by the electrode structure, applied signal and the medium (suspension) dielectric properties depending on the application. Electrokinetic forces refer to a set of phenomena that involve the movement of charged/uncharged particles or fluids under the influence of an electric field. Dielectrophoresis, a type of electrokinetic force, occurs when a non-uniform electric field exerts a force on uncharged polarizable particles in liquid media. This webinar discusses the electrokinetic forces, especially dielectrophoresis, in terms of advances, limitations and applications. Manipulation of bioparticles for biosensing is an example of utilizing dielectrophoresis in nanotechnology research.
