In this talk, I discuss aspects of environmental ethics, empowerment, and partnerships as additional support to traditional models of global-scale sustainability. I then use this new and expanded model, with its five principal components (Environment, Energy, Economics, Education, and Ethics), for local-scale use in a university where the primary mission is education and research. I end the discussion with the suggestion for an R&D initiative on "computational sustainability" that will engage industry and university partners to address sustainability problems that involve, for example, the scientific understanding of biological, chemical, and physical processes and deep learning.
